Bruins' Storm Surge Overwhelms Tampa Bay

Boston scored four unanswered goals to take Game 3 of their first-round all-time playoff series against the Tampa Bay Lightning by the score of 5-2. The Bruins will now look to take a stranglehold of the series on home ice as they now lead the series 2-1.

After Peter McNab got the home crowd to its feet with the first goal of the game, the Lightning answered back with a game-tying goal by Dan Boyle with 1:29 left in the first period.

With the second frame only 57 seconds old, Tampa Bay pushed ahead on a rush by Vinny
Lecavalier as he pumped a wristed shot past the glove of Bruins' netminder Gerry Cheevers.
The Lightning's lead was fleeting as David Krejci spotted Rick Middleton at the side of the net and Nifty neatly tipped home his offering to tie the game only 2:08 after Lecavalier's marker. Johnny Bucyk gave Boston the lead for good tipping home a Patrice Bergeron wrister for a 3-2 advantage.

Bobby Orr sealed the deal in the third adding a goal and setting up Bergeron for an empty netter. Tampa Bay had a chance to narrow the gap when Boston coughed the puck up at the Lightning's blue line. Steven Stamkos was pulling away on a breakaway but was chased down and tripped inside the Bruins' zone before he could get a shot off which led to a penalty shot. Cheevers stared down Stamkos to squash a potential momentum changer. Since Cheevers took over as starter in Game Two, he is undefeated with a 1.51 goals-against average.
