The Sensational 70s - Sawx Snap Slump

So it's been slightly over a year since I began this tribute season to the 1975 Red Sox, culling the best editions of other franchises from 1975 -1979. I would have had this season completed a while ago had it not been for the fact that I have been heavily involved in building classic rosters over on Operation Sports. This is a labour of love, but also a very time consuming venture. I'm currently using MLB 14, but I'm ready to move on to MLB 16 when it drops a mere two weeks from today. I will be starting to transfer rosters over to the new title soon so my Sensational 70s season play will become even more spastic, but I will finish it.

As it stands today, my virtual dream season has entered the month of August, and these initial few days have been the dog days of summer for the Sawx. Boston has lost the first four games of the month including being swept by the AL East leading '78 Yankees at home. Tacking on two more losses from the last two days in July, and my Sawx were the recipients of a 6 game losing streak. July was an exceptional month for Boston as they logged a 17 - 8 record. However, they are barely over 500 since the all-star break with a 9-8 mark, and currently sit 4 games back out of first.

After dropping the opening game in St. Louis to the '79 Cardinals, the Red Sox got up off the mat in larger fashion. Boston blasted 4 homers and two doubles in a 10-3 romp. Dwight Evens hit both doubles. Two of those homer were clubbed by red hot Jim Rice while Fred Lynn chipped in with a towering shot to center.

It looked as though this game would be Boston's only victory of the three game series in St. Louis as Cardinal pitching wiggled out of jams throughout the finale and carried a 4-1 lead to the ninth inning. However, the Red Sox sent 11 men to the plate and threw a snowman up on the scoreboard rallying for a 9-6 win. Jim Rice drilled his third homer in two games and Fred Lynn would followed suit with yet another blast to center field. Game summary from the ninth and highlights below.

Boston now embarks on a west coast swing to play a four game set against the Angels who are 8-2 in their last ten games. Below are leaders for some categories for year end awards (ignore ROY as pretty much all created players in this roster are considered rookies) and the hot hottest hitting Sawx players for the past ten games.
