More Mookie Maryland Magic

After being treated to no hit baseball for 6 plus innings, we were again on the cusp of watching more bullpen bumblefuckery. Eduardo Rodriguez was having another terrific outing when his hamstring forced him out of the game giving way to Matt Barnes to begin the fifth inning. Barnes capably responded in kind by continuing the no hit bid until a slow nubber rolled to Holt by Mark Trumbo resulted in an infield single.

And ya know what? Thanks to the heroics of young Master Mookie, I don't even have to continue the above narrative on Red Sox pitching any further other than to acknowledge Kimbrel's solid efforts in the ninth for his 21st save. No need to mention an insufferable left handed prick or another bases loaded shitshow. Coming into the game last night, Betts was hitting .381 with 6 doubles, 6 homers, 11 runs scored, and 17 RBI in 15 games. Against Baltimore, he had been crushing at a .419 clip with 6 homers and 12 RBI in 10 games. Incredibly, he continued his torrid hitting at Oriole Park last night and inflated these numbers even further with his 2 homers and 5 RBI to single-handedly lead Boston to victory.

This has been a fine start to the 11 game road trip. Boston dropped the Central Division leading Indians 3-2 to kick things off, and followed it up with some "Mookie Magic" to pick up this victory over Baltimore.  Boston is showing that they can beat the best teams. Cleveland is the second highest scoring team in the AL behind Boston, and the Orioles have been atop the AL East for a good portion of the summer. The Red Sox and Orioles are now tied in second one game behind the Jays who came back to beat New York last night. Another win tonight with wannabe ace David Price would be a terrific lead-in to a huge series against Detroit who are nipping at the heels of a wildcard position.
